The Complete Guide to RS Barcelona Shuffleboard Tables
Every other shuffleboard table on this site is a wooden table. Some have thicker beds than others, some have nicer cabinets, some cost eight times as much as others — but they are all, fundamentally, hardwood playfields in hardwood cradles, and they all inherit the same set of properties and problems from that choice.
RS Barcelona's Track collection is not a wooden table. The playfield is steel. That single decision changes the maintenance, the environments the table can live in, the color possibilities, the weight, and the way the thing reads in a room. It also means the usual comparison framework — how thick is the maple, how long is the warranty — doesn't really apply. This guide explains what steel construction actually does, what it costs you, and who should be buying it. Compare it against everything else we stock in our complete shuffleboard table collection.
Spanish Design, Spanish Manufacturing
RS Barcelona is a Spanish design house whose game tables appear in hotels, restaurants, corporate offices, retail spaces, and architect-specified homes across Europe and increasingly in the US. The company's output sits closer to contemporary furniture design than to the recreational equipment industry — its products are reviewed in design publications and specified by interior architects.
The Track shuffleboard was designed by Rafael Rodríguez and is designed and manufactured in Spain. That matters practically as well as reputationally: these are made to order rather than pulled from domestic warehouse stock, which is why lead times run longer and why the customization range is as wide as it is.
Steel: What It Actually Changes
The construction. The playing surface is steel, treated by cataphoresis — an immersion process that electrically bonds a protective coating to the metal, used in automotive manufacturing for corrosion resistance — then finished with bicomponent epoxy resin, which provides the hard, fast surface the pucks glide on. The supporting structure is also steel, powder-coated in micro-textured polyester paint. Legs are FSC/PEFC-certified iroko wood, a dense tropical hardwood, and the inner lining is Texfel Eco 9, made from 100% PET with 60% recycled content.
No humidity problem. This is the substantive benefit. Wood absorbs and releases moisture, and a wooden shuffleboard playfield responds by crowning or cupping slightly through the year. The symptom is unmistakable: every puck drifts the same direction regardless of technique. Every quality wooden table addresses this with climate adjusters — threaded hardware you tune seasonally with a straightedge. Champion, Berner, Brunswick all fit them, and all require that ongoing attention.
Steel doesn't absorb moisture. There are no climate adjusters on a Track because there is nothing to adjust. The playfield is flat when it arrives and stays flat.
Outdoor capability. Because of the above, the Track is rated for covered outdoor use as well as indoor — the only designer shuffleboard we carry that is. A covered patio, roofed terrace, or sheltered porch is viable in a way it simply isn't for any hardwood table, where humidity and temperature swings will destroy the playfield regardless of finish quality. The table should be covered rather than fully exposed; this is a sheltered-outdoor rating, not an all-weather one. See our full outdoor shuffleboards collection for other options built for the elements.
Color. Powder coating steel allows real color in a way staining wood does not. Wooden tables give you tones — espresso, cherry, weathered oak, driftwood. The Track comes in eighteen colorways, including saturated ones no wooden table can approach.
Weight. A 14ft Track weighs about 480 lbs. A 14ft hardwood table from Brunswick or Champion runs 630 to 700-plus lbs. The 9ft Track is around 298 lbs and the 12ft around 397 lbs. Combined with tables that arrive nearly assembled, installation is meaningfully easier than the category norm.
What it costs you. Traditionalists will tell you a three-inch Canadian maple butcher block is the authentic shuffleboard experience, and they are not wrong. If you grew up playing on wooden bar tables and that's what you want in your basement, steel will feel different. There's also no 16ft, 18ft, or 22ft option, so serious league players are out. And at $16,372 and up, you're paying roughly double what a Champion with a thicker playfield costs — the premium goes to design, materials, and capability, not to gameplay specification.
The Two Models
Track Shuffleboard Table — from $16,372
The core piece. A long, low steel form on iroko legs, with the playing surface set into the structure and the scoring path marked directly on the resin. Overall dimensions run roughly 117" × 32" × 33" in the 9ft, 143" × 32" × 33" in the 12ft, and 170" × 32" × 33" in the 14ft. Available in all eighteen colorways with further customization on request.
Its visual signature is the narrowness — about 32 inches wide against the 33 inches of a Plank & Hide and the 36 inches of a Champion with a scoring unit. That proportion, plus the visible leg structure and absence of a bulky cradle, is what makes the Track read as furniture rather than equipment.
Track Dining Shuffleboard Table — from $19,060
The same table with a tempered glass top that converts it to a 39-inch (100cm) bar-height table. This deserves distinguishing from what most brands mean by a convertible shuffleboard: it isn't a wooden leaf laid over the playfield to protect it. The glass creates a genuine standing-height serving surface, and because it's glass, the playfield remains visible beneath it — the table still reads as a shuffleboard while functioning as a bar table.
For a restaurant, hotel lounge, office break area, or a home that entertains, that dual function is the entire argument. The premium over the standard Track is roughly $2,700. Compare against other convertible options in our dining/conversion shuffleboards collection, where most models convert to seated dining height rather than bar height.
The Eighteen Colors
Black, white, grey, window grey, grey brown, blue, steel blue, sky blue, cool blue, green, green beige, warm sage, bordeaux, terracotta, traffic red, sulfur yellow, pastel violet, peach rose.
Worth thinking about strategically rather than just picking a favorite. The neutrals — black, white, the greys — let a 14-foot object recede into a room, which matters when the table dominates the floor plan. The saturated colors do the opposite and make it the focal point, which works in a space designed around it or in a commercial venue matching a brand palette. The muted tones — warm sage, green beige, peach rose, pastel violet — are the interesting middle, adding color without shouting.
Additional customization is available on request. Contact us to discuss finishes outside the standard range.
One practical note: black and white typically ship faster than the specialty colors, since they're the highest-volume finishes. If timing matters more than the exact shade, that's worth knowing.
Sizing Your Space
- 9ft — roughly 16 to 17 feet of room length. Shop all 9ft tables.
- 12ft — roughly 19 to 20 feet. Shop all 12ft tables.
- 14ft — roughly 21 to 23 feet. Shop all 14ft tables.
Those figures allow 3 to 4 feet of clearance at each end for players to step back and follow through. Width is easier than most premium tables at about 32 inches, so 7 feet of room width is comfortable.
If your room can't take 9 feet plus clearance, see our space-saving shuffleboards collection. If you need 16ft or longer, Champion and Berner both build to 22ft.
Ordering, Lead Times, and Delivery
These are made to order in Spain. Reported lead times run around 8 to 10 weeks, with black and white shipping faster — contact us for current timing on your chosen color and size before ordering, since this is the single thing most likely to matter to your plans.
Delivery arrives in two or three crates depending on length, with the tables shipped nearly assembled. That's a genuine advantage over hardwood tables of comparable size, which typically require substantial on-site construction. Every RS Barcelona table ships free to the continental United States with our guaranteed lowest price online.
Each table includes a set of eight pucks and roughly 450g of shuffleboard powder — everything needed to play on arrival.
Maintenance
Shorter than the equivalent section for any wooden table, which is the point.
Powder when glide slows. Reapply as needed based on play frequency. Sweep between games to keep distribution even.
Wipe clean. Dry or lightly damp cloth on the steel and resin. No abrasives, no solvents.
Cover it outdoors. If the table lives in a covered outdoor space, a cover during the off-season protects the iroko legs and keeps debris off the playfield.
That's it. No seasonal playfield tuning. No climate adjusters to check with a straightedge. No resurfacing to schedule. No humidity control requirements. The maintenance burden that comes with a solid wood playfield simply isn't part of owning this table.
Commercial Installations
RS Barcelona specifies the Track for residential, hospitality, office, and retail use under intense use conditions, which is why these tables show up in hotels, restaurants, and corporate spaces.
Three things make them work commercially: the steel construction handles continuous public use without the wear a wooden playfield shows; the eighteen-color range lets a venue match a brand palette, which no wooden table can do; and the Track Dining's bar-height conversion turns a game table into usable floor space during busy service.
For coin-operated commercial installations, Champion remains the better choice — it builds specifically for that model with bill acceptors and pingates. But for a design-conscious venue where the table is part of the interior concept, RS Barcelona is in a category of its own.
Is RS Barcelona Right for You?
Yes, if the table needs to work as contemporary design in a visible space, you want a covered outdoor installation, you want a specific color rather than a wood tone, you want genuine bar-height dining conversion, you'd rather not manage seasonal playfield maintenance, or you're specifying for a hotel, restaurant, or office.
Choose a hardwood brand if you want the traditional maple shuffleboard experience, you need 16ft or longer, playfield thickness is your primary criterion, or a $16,000 entry price is beyond the plan. Champion, Berner, Brunswick, and Holland all build excellent wooden tables for considerably less.
Consider other design-led options if you want design-forward but in wood — Plank & Hide Co., Four Hands, and Stone Age all approach the design question differently and at lower prices.
Look elsewhere entirely for LED rails (light-up) or traditional pub atmosphere (pub-style).
